PolyBuzz Alternatives: 7 Apps Like PolyBuzz in 2026

By Nayan Dhabarde · Published October 11, 2026

Talkie is the app most like PolyBuzz, Character.AI has the biggest library, and Janitor AI is the free web option with a deep bench of community characters. Those three, plus four more for different needs, are compared below, with every price and rating taken from the apps' own store pages and help sites in October 2026. Disclosure: we make Mythx, pick #6, and it's a filtered, SFW story game rather than a chat app.

What PolyBuzz does well

PolyBuzz is a phone app for chatting with characters, many of them voiced. Its Google Play listing promises characters "complete with authentic voices," lets anyone build a character and keep it private or share it, and calls the conversations free. That formula works: the listing shows 50M+ downloads and a 4.0-star average from about 1.19 million reviews.

The money side is busier. On the US App Store, PolyBuzz sells two currencies (coins and opals) and four subscriptions, from Poly Standard at $4.99 a week up to Poly Ultimate at $29.90 a month. Both store pages say the app contains ads, and several App Store reviews single out the ads for non-subscribers. The age ratings are Mature 17+ on Google Play and 18+ on the App Store.

How to choose

Three questions sort most people. Do you need voices? Then look at Talkie, Character.AI and Kindroid. Are ads the problem? Mythx shows no ads, and AI Dungeon (noted at the end) promises the same. Do you want a story more than a conversation? Mythx and AI Dungeon are built for that.

Picks in detail

1. Talkie

Talkie is the closest match: a phone-first community where people create AI personas ("Talkies") and chat with each other's. Its Google Play listing calls it "Talkie: Creative AI Community," shows 50M+ downloads, and lists creation tools for "AI image, video, audio and music." It's rated Teen there, with ads.

On iPhone the app goes by Talkie Lab, rated 18+, with subscriptions of $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year and a Talkie+ Pro tier at $24.99 a month. If you liked building characters on PolyBuzz, this is the easiest move.

2. Character.AI

Character.AI has the largest catalog of the seven and lets you call characters as well as text them; the Google Play listing sums it up as "Chat, call, text." Chatting is free, and the App Store sells Character.AI+ at $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year.

Two catches. The Android listing says it contains ads, and teens can't use open-ended chat anymore: Character.AI ended it for under-18s "no later than November 25," 2025. It also moderates content, which its safety page describes.

3. Janitor AI

Janitor AI is a website first, with a huge library of community-made characters and free chat. In June 2026 it added an optional Janitor+ subscription at $12.99 a month for five times more context, and the team said the regular version "stays completely free."

It's for adults only, per its help center. The iOS and Android apps start in Safe Mode until you change a setting on the website. For a closer look at it and its rivals, see our Janitor AI alternatives.

4. Chai

Chai is the quickest of the seven to pick up: open the app and scroll a stream of community bots. It's an 18+ service whose models are designed to refuse sexually explicit content. The free app shows ads on Google Play, and the App Store sells Premium at $13.99 a month and Ultra at $29.99 a month.

5. Kindroid

Kindroid trades a big library for one companion you build and keep. Voice is central: paid plans include voice calls and video calls and a monthly pool of audio credits, according to its subscription docs. The free side is thin, a one-time preview of 50 messages (15 in some regions), after which the account turns read-only. On Google Play it's rated Mature 17+.

6. Mythx

Mythx is a different kind of app. Instead of picking a character to chat with, you arrive as the newcomer in one of 13 hand-built worlds, and the AI plays everyone there. The people in each world have their own jobs, routines and memories of you, and the story is illustrated as you play.

Haruka and Jin share canned drinks on a stone bench under a blooming cherry tree at the Hoshimori academy at dusk Jin rests a bamboo practice sword on his shoulder in the Hoshimori kendo hall while Haruka holds a clipboard at the door

Haruka, the dorm head, and Jin, the kendo captain, at Hoshimori, Mythx's hilltop academy: under the courtyard cherry tree at dusk and at the kendo hall door. The same two faces in both scenes.

You can start free in your browser with no sign-up and play 10 scenes a day. The first scenes come illustrated, and the rest of the free scenes continue in text. Premium is $4.99 a week, $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year for unlimited story and 100 illustrated scenes a day. It runs on the web, iOS and Android.

What PolyBuzz fans will miss: there's no voice, no library of user-made characters to chat with one-on-one, and no mature setting, because Mythx is filtered. You can design your own hero's look. Players must be 13 or older, and minors need a parent's or guardian's consent.

7. SpicyChat

SpicyChat is a website of user-made chatbots aimed at adults. Its community guidelines set the minimum age at 18 and require explicit bots to be marked NSFW. Core features are free, and paid tiers after the September 2026 update run $5.95, $19.95 and $29.95 a month. There's an Android APK on SpicyChat's own site but no App Store app.

Pick by what you'll miss most

  • The voices: Talkie, then Character.AI's calls, or Kindroid for one companion.
  • Making and sharing characters: Talkie or Janitor AI.
  • A free app with no ads: Mythx or AI Dungeon.
  • Adult conversations: SpicyChat or Janitor AI, both 18+.
  • Pictures and a story that goes somewhere: Mythx.
  • Something a teenager can use: Mythx (13+ with a parent's consent) or AI Dungeon, below.

One more for story fans: AI Dungeon runs open text adventures. Its App Store listing promises free play with "no ads," and its terms allow players from 13.
