What the AI Dungeon Master Does, and Doesn't
It runs the story the way a game master improvises. It does not run a rules system.
It does
- Narrates every scene from what you type, with no command list to learn
- Plays every character: the barkeep, the ranger, the rogue, the stranger in the corner booth
- Remembers what you said and did, so people react to it later
- Keeps the world moving: people have jobs and routines, there are tasks to take on and places to travel, and the day passes as you play
- Illustrates your first scenes for free, and up to 100 scenes a day on Premium
It doesn't
- Roll dice or track stats. There are no character sheets, hit points or 5e rules.
- Run a battle map or initiative order.
- Seat a group. Mythx is single-player.
- Use official Dungeons & Dragons settings or published adventures.

Solo D&D-Style Play Without the Prep
Solo tabletop play usually means oracle tables, journaling and doing the dungeon master's job yourself. With an AI dungeon master you skip that part: pick a world, make your character, and the world answers back. Can an AI be a dungeon master?
Yes. In Mythx the AI narrates each scene, plays every character in the world and responds to whatever you type, the way a game master improvises at the table. It keeps track of what you have said and done, so the story builds on itself.
Is Mythx Dungeons & Dragons?
No. Mythx is a D&D-style story game with no dice, stats or 5e rules. It is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast, which owns Dungeons & Dragons and D&D.
Can I play D&D solo with an AI?
You can play a D&D-style adventure solo. Mythx is single-player and the AI plays everyone else, so you never wait for a group. If you want the official rules with an AI helper, look at rules-based tools such as the ones in our Friends & Fables and AI Realm comparisons.
Is the AI dungeon master free?
Yes, it is free to start in your browser with no sign-up. Free play includes 10 scenes a day, and your first scenes come illustrated; after that, free scenes continue in text. Premium ($4.99 a week, $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year) adds unlimited story and up to 100 illustrated scenes a day.
Can I play with friends?
No. Every Mythx game is single-player, with the AI playing every other character.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. It runs in the browser on any phone or computer, and there are apps for iOS and Android.
Is it safe for teens?
Mythx is filtered and has no mature setting. Players must be 13 or older, with a parent’s or guardian’s consent for minors.
