Bruk Stonevoice
A half-orc blacksmith with a hammer in one hand and a song in his heart.
Bruk was born in the smithy of his human mother, Mera, in the village of Ironhold, where the ring of hammer on steel was his first lullaby. His orc father had left before his birth, and the village tolerated Bruk only for Mera's skill at forging plowshares. While other children played, Bruk worked the bellows and listened to traveling bards who stopped for repairs, their songs of heroes and far places stirring something the forge could never shape. He learned to coax music from iron, but his deepest longing was to coax it from strings.
At sixteen, Bruk forged his first blade, a hunting knife for the village elder, and earned a grudging nod. But when a bard named Lian sang of the Battle of Nine Pines, Bruk slipped away that night with a stolen lute from the tavern keep. He made it three miles before guilt turned him back. The lute was returned, but Lian saw the hunger in his eyes and offered him a deal: travel with her as a road-hand, repairing armor and learning chords by firelight. For two years, Bruk followed Lian across the Freeholds, his hands growing equally calloused on strings and steel. Then Lian vanished in the port city of Vess, leaving only her broken lute and a note that read, 'Keep playing, Bruk. The world needs more than swords.'
Now Bruk wanders the old roads alone, a blacksmith's hammer on his back and Lian's mended lute in his arms. He earns coin mending pots and singing for supper, always listening for word of Lian. In every tavern, he asks the same question, and in every town, he leaves a small iron rose on the windowsill of a kind stranger. He has not forgotten the forge, but the stage calls louder each day.
