How Mythx AI roleplay works

Pick a world, choose who you play, and arrive as the newcomer. From there you say or do anything in your own words, and the AI plays everyone else: people with jobs, routines and a memory of you.

See it in action

Your first minutes, in pictures

These three pictures come from the short tutorial new players see first. Every world plays the same way: you arrive, take a task, and act in your own words.

The process

Five steps from arrival to your own story

Steps 1 to 3 get you to your first scene. After that, the game is the loop in steps 4 and 5: pick what to do, then play it out in your own words.

1

Choose a world

Press Play and pick one of 13 hand-built worlds. Each one is a small place with its own people, map, look and first task. You don’t write a setting prompt; you choose where you want to live. See all 13 worlds

Fantasy worlds

  • Emberhollow, a cozy fantasy village
  • Solenne, an imperial magic academy
  • The Hollow Lantern, a tavern you inherit

Other places and eras

  • Bellsworth, a gaslit Victorian district
  • Hartwell, an American college campus
  • Saltwick, an age-of-sail harbor town
2

Pick who you play

Each world offers ready-made characters already dressed for it. Heroes you designed in the character creator show up in the same list. The world keeps your hero’s face and puts them in its everyday clothes. Design your own hero

Ready-made characters

  • Two per world, a man and a woman
  • Dressed for that world
  • Ready in one tap

Your own hero

  • Choose their look option by option
  • The AI paints a portrait, no prompt needed
  • Your first hero is free to make
3

Arrive as the newcomer

Your first scene is your arrival. You come in as the new face in town, a local greets you, and the scene is written and illustrated as you watch. If it’s your first time, a short tutorial in Emberhollow shows you the controls first.

Your arrival

  • You arrive as the newcomer
  • A local comes to meet you
  • The arrival scene is illustrated

First time here

  • A short tutorial shows the buttons
  • It plays one small task
  • Skip it if you’d rather start
4

Decide what to do

Between scenes, the town is yours. A task card offers a few things to do, each with a place and a goal; browse them and start the one you like. You can also go find anyone in town, travel to places you’ve discovered, or rest and sleep to move the clock.

Tasks and visits

  • Browse task options, start one
  • See where everyone is right now
  • Tap a person to go find them

Travel and time

  • Travel to places you’ve discovered
  • Rest until noon, evening or night
  • Sleep until morning
5

Say or do anything

Inside a task or a visit, you play in your own words. Tap Speak to say something, Act to do something, or Next to let the scene play on; suggested actions are there if you want a nudge. The AI plays everyone else and writes what happens. End the task or visit when you’re done, and the next task will be waiting. See Premium plans

Your controls

  • Speak: what you say
  • Act: what you do
  • Next: let the scene continue

Pictures

  • Premium: every scene, up to 100 a day
  • Free: 10 scenes a day, the first ones illustrated
  • Same faces and outfits scene to scene

Going deeper

What keeps the world alive

The worlds keep going around you. Here is what runs under every scene.

People remember you

Townsfolk remember what actually happened between you in the story: a favor you did, something you said. A first meeting usually ends with a question about you, and later visits pick up where you left off.

Everyone keeps a routine

People work, eat and go home on a schedule. The people list shows where each person is and what they’re doing right now. Call on someone late at night and they react to the hour.

A day that moves

One in-game day passes for every real hour you play, from morning to late night. The clock pauses while you’re away, so the world picks up at the hour you left it.

Same faces in every scene

Characters keep their face and outfit from one picture to the next. Bring your own hero and the world keeps their face too, in clothes that fit the setting.

22 art styles, two cameras

Switch art style mid-adventure and the next picture uses it. Choose first person to see scenes through your own eyes, or third person to see your character in the frame.

Your language, any screen

Play in 10 languages, in the browser or the iOS and Android apps, with one account. In the apps, people also come knocking at your door; on the web, you go to them.

Pick a world and arrive

Mythx is free to start in your browser, with no credit card. Sign in with Google, Apple or email, choose a world, and your arrival scene is a few clicks away.
